Hi, everyone -- Diane here.
"Love Letters: Amaryllis" ©2011 Diane Evans
Have you ever gathered fabrics over a long period of time, waiting for the opportunity to start that special project that's been percolating in the back of your mind?? Of COURSE you have -- you're an art quilter, aren't you?! So, after much gathering and percolating, I've finally put the finishing touches on a piece that I've been wanting to make ever since I bought a copy of "Appliqué Art" by Stewart Merrett, a book that is a visual feast of beautiful projects created with gorgeous decorator fabrics. Please visit my blog to learn more about this little art quilt and to see more photos.

Is that a universal quiter's trait? It must be. But I've got another worse one, and I bet I'm not alone. I buy some fabric that I love, no adore and I take it home, loveingly putting it on the shelf. Looking at it often...dreaming of it. But I don't want to squander it on the wrong pattern, because then it will be all gone! So I look and watch and wait and nothing is ever'just right" in my mind. So there it sits, never used, waiting for a pattern that will never be just right enough to use up my wonderful, beautiful fabric. Is that crazy or what?
Lovely work, Diane.
Yes, I, too, have fabric that is waiting but I remember Doreen Speckman saying if you don't use it, someday you will be gone and someone will be using your fabulous fabric to cover up the lawn mower or some such silliness. Makes you think more about using it, doesn't it?
Stop waiting for perfect pattern...make it into the ART quilt of your dreams...no pattern necessary...begin and trust that it will flow!!!!
Not a quilter myself but can appreciate the beauty of that!!!! My mom was a quilter and seamstress and I spent many hours shopping for fabric with her.
Those fabrics lend such vibrancy to your work. I love the post your wrote on your blog. What a hoot.
