And then the little angel flew off to the stars
where she lived with Greater Bear, Smaller Bear
and all of her other animal friends.
Looking through my sketchbook, I found this little angel and she was the inspiration for this whimsical quilter's tile.
Often I start a project without a plan, well, maybe I should clarify that to without a drawn plan, just an idea in my head. For this project, I actually used a sketch that I had in my sketchbook. I did flow with it and make changes along the way. (For step-by-step, stop by my blog)
How do you work? Do you make a pattern and make all your mistakes (or changes) on paper before you start?

Love the background fabric on your angel tile -- so perfect. It's a lovely little piece.

Very nice! I've never heard the term quilter's tile but looks it looks interesting , will have to google it:-) I'm going to your blog to see your process, it looks like the angel is painted?
For me, I usually start with a photo, then either sketch it or copy it in black and white enlarging to the size I want. Then use a black sharpie to trace just the lines I want in my quilt, only the basics - the details can be added later.
Make the basic templates from that and then the playtime begins:-)
For the background, I went digging in my stash, without an idea what would work and I was so happy to find this little piece that I was so happy with. (And, my pleased little angel flew right on.)
To landscapelady: Starting with a photo works well, especially for your lovely realistic pieces.
Love your Tuesday Tiles Sharon. What a sweet little piece. Your angel is so whimsical.
I usually start with a concrete idea in mind. Many times I draw a sketch, occasionally I work from a photo. Often I find my completed work looks nothing like my inspiration drawing but I need to sketch to get my creativity started.
